9:24am. A few minutes, Moriah and I are heading to The Conscious-Life Expo at the LA Airport Hilton. I'm feeling the need to update the site seeing the visitor stats the highest they've ever been. Visitors came from 3,686 distinct Internet addresses in the past week alone, and the longest visit lasted for 496 minutes.
Yesterday I was depressed, realizing I would not have the money to attend the Rainbow Gathering in Costa Rica, since attendance at my last three shows was low. The people who came were stoked, but my mistake was not making personal contact with enough people or getting it in the papers. I used email lists, posters, flyers, and Ojai Spirit monthly events newsletter. This is a hard way to make money considering the amount of energy I put into it... to the amount I am getting out. I'm not well known in this area of the world, so I need to make a personal connection with people to get butts in the seats. The UCSB excursion club, who I presented the show in partnership with for a 20% cut in door sales helped with advertising, announcing the show at lecture halls and printing off 4000 flyers, and I handed out 600 flyers on the UCSB campus the afternoon of my show, picking out specific people I though would dig it, but still only about 30 people came.
So... I'm going to focus more on captive audiences. And I do mean captive. I'm planning to tour the LA County prison system, and need to write a letter to the sheriff to get permission. I want help from you, my friends, to write this letter. What should I say to the sheriff? Any ideas will be appreciated.
Cory,
I just learned of your website from your post on the unschooling board.
How fortunate you are to have had such a wise, open mind at such a
young age. Your mission and website are wonderful!
I have two young girls. My hope is that they continue to be as curious
and grow to be as confident, thinking and as determined to live life
their way as you. This dream for our unborn children is how our
family's learning adventure began. How encouraging and reaffirming to
see your real life example of our dream for our precious little ones.
Best wishes,
Kristin
